Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev secured his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a difficult season, managing just one win at the big events and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in specific - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court since March of that year.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring emotional displays on court had caused observers to question if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete aggressively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Moutet, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional championship, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
